      “Today we hosted over 100 village elders from Bamburi and Majaoni locations for an end of year party in our community resource center. Kisauni MP Rashid Bedzimba, Bamburi Ward MCA Patrick Mbelle, Kisauni Sub-County DCC Jamlick Mutembei and Kiembeni Police Station Deputy OCS J Mr. Nyasani were present. In that event, Mashinani Watch Organization explained the importance of empowering village elders economically as one way of promoting peace and security in our areas of residence. In the recent past we have witnessed rise in crime cases like murder, robbery, drug trafficking & abuse, gender based violence among others and these vices are sometimes facilitated by lack of enough social-economic empowerment of villages security apparatus. Coast based organization raises concerns on the need to safeguard rights of refugees.

  “Mashinani Watch Organization will partner with Refugee Consortium of Kenya (RCK) on various programs to safeguard the rights of refugees seeking asylum in  Kenya. As an organization we are very much aware of challenges faced by refugees particularly when it comes to police harassment. We have seen many cases where refugees undergo problems in the process of being assimilated in the country and most of those challenges can be addressed through collaboration with relevant entities. Today we had refugees from Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and Somalia who reside in Kisauni areas of Mombasa County and they have listed several problems that make them feel demeaned and psychologically tortured. For example, they have mentioned that, they are always harassed and arrested by police even after producing manifest document, discrimination from the community members, bullying of their children by peers in schools, unemployment due to lack of identification...

    “We will rally our support behind the Kenya Primary School Heads Association (KEPSHA)on forcing government to change the title of headmasters to that of principals in line with the comprehensive schools they head. It is true d uring the development and implementation of the new CBC, the government through Teacher Service Commission didn’t factor in the hard task of accommodating and managing Junior Secondary School(JSS) in the primary schools’ institutions across the country and that has caused immense pressure on teachers. Head teachers are very right. How can government develop a system then fail to understand the responsibilities coming with that system? Accommodating Junior Secondary Schools in primary schools was supposed to be seen as a new responsibility to head teachers and by mentioning the word “Secondary” in the system, automatically the title of a headmaster ought to have changed to that of a principal.
